Trade Data Quality & Coverage Notes

Trade-data quality depends on the underlying customs, shipment or mirror source. BillOfLadingData.com validates and normalizes available records, but does not claim uniform fields or accuracy across every market.

Coverage snapshot: Methodology
Quality dimensions

Quality is measured at source level.

The catalog and sample should be read together: one explains coverage, while the other confirms the exact records and fields for a purchase or integration.

Freshness

Update frequency is tracked by source. The latest shipment or customs date can lag the delivery date and is confirmed in a sample.

Completeness

Completeness is assessed against fields reported by the source, not an assumption that every market publishes identical data.

Normalization

Countries, companies, products, ports, units and dates are standardized while source-native values can be retained where required.

Validation

Processing checks structure, field types, identifiers, ranges and duplicate patterns before data is added to delivery systems.

Country differences

Product language, HS-code depth, values, quantities, party names and transport fields vary by country and time period.

Suppression and confidentiality

Official sources may suppress, aggregate or omit confidential records. These limitations cannot be reconstructed from fields that were not reported.

Direct versus mirror

Granularity must be explicit.

Direct / transaction-level sources

These sources can contain record-level companies, products, dates, values, quantities, ports or bill-of-lading details. Exact attributes remain country-specific.

Mirror / bilateral sources

These sources describe flows between reporting countries and support market analysis. They may not identify shipment parties or provide bill-level detail.
